Motor & connection
The W&H S-8R and S-8S have a standard E-type (ISO 3964, also called E-style) motor coupling. A matching coupling does not by itself mean a motor is suitable or approved for operating a saw. Per the W&H Instructions for Use:
Confirm compatibility with your motor's manufacturer before use.
W&H's Oral Surgery & Implantology catalog lists the S-8R and S-8S as accessories for its Implantmed and Elcomed surgical systems.
Operate per the W&H Instructions for Use for your motor and saw handpiece.
Ask us about motor compatibilityW&H requires adequate cooling and suction when operating the S-8R and S-8S saws. Continuous coolant delivery helps manage frictional heat during osteotomies and reduce the risk of thermal bone injury.
The handpieces feature an external coolant tube connected to the surgical motor's irrigation system. Select tubing appropriate for your motor console.

FAQ
The S-8R is a reciprocating saw with 1.8 mm blade movement. The S-8S is a sagittal saw with approx. 3° blade movement. Both have a 3.25:1 transmission ratio, an E-type (ISO 3964) coupling, a 40,000 rpm maximum rated speed and a saw frequency of 12,300 at that speed. Which motion suits which procedure: [APPROVED REGULATORY TEXT NEEDED].
It is the motor coupling standard on both saws. A matching coupling does not establish that a motor is suitable or approved to run a saw. The IFU requires a supply unit that meets IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2, a drive speed no higher than 40,000 rpm, and adequate cooling and suction. Confirm compatibility with your motor's manufacturer.
W&H's Oral Surgery & Implantology catalog lists the S-8R and S-8S as accessories for its Implantmed and Elcomed surgical systems. For the Implantmed Plus SI-1015, W&H specifies the EM-19 and EM-19 LC motors. Both saws have the standard E-type (ISO 3964) coupling and a maximum drive speed of 40,000 rpm. Follow the W&H Instructions for Use for your motor and saw, and ask us through the motor compatibility form if your setup is different.
The W&H Instructions for Use say to change the saw blades after every treatment and to use only saw blades approved by W&H. Blades are supplied sterile in packs of 5.
The IFU requires sufficient, adequate cooling and suction at all times and says to stop the saw immediately if the coolant supply fails. It specifies a maximum saw-blade temperature of 41°C (105.8°F).
W&H disposable irrigation tubing sets: 2.2 m for motors with a 1.8 m cable (most common) or 3.8 m for motors with a 3.5 m cable. On the saws, the tubing press-fits onto the handpiece's external coolant tube. [CONFIRM: W&H written approval.]
