Steigmann instruments for soft tissue splitting and periodontal surgery
The Hu-Friedy Steigmann Kit, US combines nine surgical instruments with a red 16-instrument Infinity Series™ cassette. Created in conjunction with Dr. Marius Steigmann, the set brings together dedicated tissue splitters, microsurgical handles, a needle holder, scissors and tissue pliers for soft tissue procedures.
The Steigmann approach centers on separating tissue layers for the requirements of the planned surgery. Hu-Friedy’s literature describes separation of mucosa from periosteum, epithelium from connective tissue and different layers of soft tissue, with applications in periodontology, mucogingival surgery and oral surgery.

- Three dedicated Steigmann splitters: PPSTEIG, TKSTEIG2 and TKSTEIG provide a focused selection for tissue-layer separation.
- Microsurgical instrumentation: two scalpel handles, a diamond-dusted needle holder and microsurgical scissors support the surgical setup.

Clinical focus: soft tissue management
The manufacturer’s literature discusses separating mucosa from the underlying periosteum to support flap mobility and closure in bone-grafting workflows. It also describes epithelial separation for free gingival graft procedures. These are technique-dependent applications, not guarantees of tension-free closure or a particular clinical outcome.

Full kit versus Mini Kit: this listing is for the full Steigmann Kit. The manufacturer’s Mini Steigmann Kit (STEIGKIT2) contains the three tissue splitters in a five-instrument cassette and is a different configuration.
Recommended additions, sold separately
Blades and sutures are not included in this kit. Hu-Friedy’s literature lists a #67 mini scalpel blade, a #15C carbon steel scalpel blade and polypropylene Perma Sharp™ sutures as recommended additions.

Hu-Friedy’s recommended suture addition
Polypropylene Perma Sharp™ Sutures: 6-0 blue polypropylene with a C-17, 3/8-circle needle, box of 12, as specified in the supplied Hu-Friedy literature. Sold separately; select sutures according to the procedure and clinician preference.
