Description
NovaBone® Dental Bone Putty is a 100% synthetic, fully resorbable calcium phosphosilicate (CPS) bone graft in a moldable putty form. It simplifies graft handling and delivery while providing a stable, osteostimulative and osteoconductive scaffold for predictable bone regeneration.
Key Features
- 100% synthetic and resorbable calcium phosphosilicate (CPS) dental bone putty
- Osteostimulative and osteoconductive for predictable bone regeneration
- More than 20 years of international clinical use with 50+ studies on file
- Pre-mixed, cohesive, moldable, and easily adaptable to defect morphology
- Stable at room temperature — no refrigeration required
- 4-year shelf life for flexible inventory management
- Appears partially opaque on radiographs for visual confirmation of graft placement
Three Convenient Delivery Options
NovaBone® Dental Bone Putty is available in three delivery formats to match clinician preference and clinical access:
-
Uni-dose Syringe
Enables precise, controlled delivery with full visualization of the graft quantity being used. -
Uni-dose Cartridges
Designed for use with a cartridge delivery system, simplifying handling and delivery into confined or hard-to-reach surgical sites. -
Tray Dose (Hand-Moldable Putty)
Designed for manual handling — the clinician kneads and shapes the material (using sterile gloves after opening) for precise adaptation and press-fit into defects.
Unique Formulation
NovaBone® Dental Putty combines CPS particles in a bimodal size distribution with a polyethylene glycol and glycerine binder. Approximately 70% of the putty volume consists of bioactive CPS.
- The water-soluble binder is absorbed within 24–72 hours after implantation.
- Binder resorption creates a 3D porous scaffold that facilitates blood and fluid diffusion through the matrix.
- Smaller CPS particles (32–125 μm) resorb faster, providing an initial release of calcium and phosphate ions.
- Larger CPS particles (90–710 μm) resorb more slowly, supporting sustained bone regeneration.
Osteostimulative & Osteoconductive Action
Unlike most synthetic grafts that are only osteoconductive, NovaBone® is both osteoconductive and osteostimulative. After implantation:
- Controlled surface reactions release Si, Ca, and P ions
- Absorption of the graft material occurs concurrently with new bone formation
- Osteoblast proliferation is stimulated in vitro, with increased DNA, osteocalcin, and alkaline phosphatase expression
- Gene array studies confirm upregulation of osteogenic gene families in vitro
Handling Characteristics
NovaBone® Dental Putty is engineered for efficiency and simplicity:
- Ready to use — no mixing or preparation required
- Pre-mixed and cohesive to minimize particulate scatter
- Moldable, stable, and easily shaped to match defect contours
- Maintains space between particles to support revascularization and bone ingrowth
- Stable at room temperature, 4-year shelf life, and partially opaque under X-ray
Clinical Insight
Preferred by many Densah® users for sinus lift "bump" procedures and other applications where moldable, radiovisible synthetic graft material is required.
