Description

Hu-Friedy tapered convex tip osteotomes are interchangeable bone instruments designed for controlled bone manipulation in oral and maxillofacial surgery. These osteotomes feature a tapered shaft with a convex working-end geometry, supporting incremental advancement and consistent tactile feedback during bone instrumentation.

This assortment includes both straight and angulated interchangeable tips, allowing selection based on access, anatomy, and surgical approach. All tips are designed for use with the Hu-Friedy interchangeable osteotome handle OSTMGRIFF, which is required for clinical use.

Compatible Components

Interchangeable Osteotome Handle: OSTMGRIFF

The handle provides a common interface for all interchangeable tips in this series.

Available Tips

  • Straight tips are identified by the numeric item code.
  • Angulated tips are identified by the letter “A” at the end of the item number.

OSTMSP27 – 2.7 mm straight tapered convex tip

OSTMSP27A – 2.7 mm angulated tapered convex tip

OSTMSP32 – 3.2 mm straight tapered convex tip

OSTMSP32A – 3.2 mm angulated tapered convex tip

OSTMSP37 – 3.7 mm straight tapered convex tip

OSTMSP37A – 3.7 mm angulated tapered convex tip

OSTMSP42 – 4.2 mm straight tapered convex tip

OSTMSP42A – 4.2 mm angulated tapered convex tip

OSTMSP50 – 5.0 mm straight tapered convex tip

OSTMSP50A – 5.0 mm angulated tapered convex tip

All variants share the same tapered shaft and convex working-end geometry, with differences limited to tip diameter and shaft angulation.

Clinical Application

Tapered convex tip osteotomes are used in oral surgery procedures requiring controlled bone manipulation. The tapered profile supports gradual advancement, while the convex working end facilitates smooth engagement with bone during instrumentation. Straight tips are typically used when direct axial access is available, while angulated tips assist with directional access in anatomically constrained regions of the oral cavity.

Final application and technique are determined by the surgeon’s training, procedural planning, and clinical judgment.
