Description
Hu-Friedy convex tip osteotomes are interchangeable bone instruments designed for controlled condensation of bone material in oral and maxillofacial surgery. These osteotomes feature convex working tips intended for gradual displacement and compaction of bone beneath the maxillary sinus, where controlled advancement and tactile feedback are essential.
The system includes both straight and angulated interchangeable tips, allowing the surgeon to select the preferred geometry based on access, anatomy, and procedural approach. All tips are designed for use with the Hu-Friedy interchangeable osteotome handle OSTMGRIFF.
Compatible Components
Interchangeable Osteotome Handle: OSTMGRIFF
- The handle is required for clinical use and supports secure attachment of all compatible osteotome tips in this series.
(Interchangeable Tips)
This item covers both straight and angulated convex tip osteotomes.
- Straight tips are identified by the numeric item code.
- Angulated tips are identified by the letter “A” at the end of the item number.
OSTMPU27 – 2.7 mm straight convex tip
OSTMPU27A – 2.7 mm angulated convex tip
OSTMPU32 – 3.2 mm straight convex tip
OSTMPU32A – 3.2 mm angulated convex tip
OSTMPU37 – 3.7 mm straight convex tip
OSTMPU37A – 3.7 mm angulated convex tip
OSTMPU42 – 4.2 mm straight convex tip
OSTMPU42A – 4.2 mm angulated convex tip
OSTMPU50 – 5.0 mm straight convex tip
OSTMPU50A – 5.0 mm angulated convex tip
All variants share the same convex working-end design, with differences limited to tip diameter and shaft angulation.
Clinical Application
These convex tip osteotomes are used to condense bone material beneath the sinus floor in oral surgery procedures. The convex geometry supports controlled displacement and compaction of bone rather than cutting. Straight tips are typically selected when axial access is available, while angulated tips provide improved directional control in anatomically constrained or posterior regions.
Use and technique are determined by surgeon training, case planning, and procedural protocol.
Design Characteristics
