Description

Hu-Friedy Hybrid Luxating Elevators are designed as a unique cross between a periotome and a luxating elevator. They combine thin, precisely angled tips and sharp working edges with a large-diameter handle to deliver controlled, atraumatic periodontal ligament severing while improving apical and interproximal access.

These instruments are intended to enhance oral adaptation, preserve the buccal plate, and support predictable atraumatic extractions by efficiently severing the periodontal ligament rather than relying on heavy leverage.

Hybrid Luxating Elevators are available in Standard Stainless Steel and Black Line configurations. Black Line versions feature the same geometry with an enhanced coating for improved grip, reduced glare, and better tactile control in wet surgical conditions.

Clinical use

  • Atraumatic extractions with emphasis on buccal plate preservation

  • Periodontal ligament severing in apical and interproximal areas

  • Cases where periotome-like access is needed with added luxation control

  • Extractions planned for grafting or implant site preservation

Design overview

Hybrid Luxating Elevators feature thin, sharply finished working ends designed to slide along the root surface and into tight interproximal spaces. The geometry allows controlled apical advancement and precise PDL release, while the large-diameter handle improves stability and reduces hand fatigue during surgical procedures.

Available patterns

The Hybrid Luxating Elevator line includes multiple configurations to address different access and force requirements:

  • EPTSSP

  • EPTSMS

  • EPTSMC

  • EPTLGD

  • EPTLGM

  • EPTSMD

  • EPTSMM

Black Line versions are available for each model by adding an “X” to the reference number.

Armamentarium placement

Hybrid Luxating Elevators are commonly included in:

  • Atraumatic extraction trays

  • Implant-focused extraction and site preservation kits

  • Periodontal and minor oral surgery setups

They are often used after or in place of traditional periotomes, and before forceps application once mobility is achieved.
