Description
The Hu-Friedy Gardner bone chisels are a family of single-ended, mono-bevel instruments designed for precise bone shaving, contouring, and removal during oral surgery and extraction procedures. Each model shares the same directional cutting principle but features a distinct blade width and tip geometry — allowing clinicians to select the appropriate instrument based on bone density, access, and the specific cutting task required.
The varied tip designs within the Gardner series make it one of the more versatile chisel families for surgical bone management. Flat-edged models (CG1, CG2) are suited to controlled shaving and refinement of cortical bone surfaces. The CG5’s pyramid ridge tip concentrates force along a triangular edge for more aggressive bone engagement in dense areas. The CG6’s inverse diamond wedge is effective for interproximal bone access and removal in confined spaces. The CG9’s semi-circular tip functions similarly to an elevator, allowing bone to be lifted and displaced rather than simply cut — particularly useful during surgical access and extraction site preparation.
Manufactured by Hu-Friedy from surgical-grade stainless steel for durability, corrosion resistance, and long-term clinical performance.
Available Variants
CG1 — 3.0 mm flat mono-bevel tip. Fine bone shaving and surface refinement in narrow or confined surgical sites.
CG2 — 4.0 mm flat mono-bevel tip. General-purpose bone contouring and shaving during surgical access and extraction site management.
CG5 — 4.3 mm pyramid ridge tip forming a triangular cutting edge. Concentrated force for engaging dense cortical bone and removing resistant bone structure.
CG6 — 4.0 mm inverse diamond wedge tip. Interproximal bone access and removal in anatomically confined areas.
CG9 — 4.0 mm semi-circular tip. Bone displacement and elevation during surgical access; functions similarly to an elevator for lifting and clearing bone at extraction sites.
