Description
Hu-Friedy Apexo Elevators are surgical elevators designed for the displacement of deeply seated roots. They are commonly used when roots are positioned apically, are difficult to access with standard elevators, or require controlled leverage to mobilize without excessive bone removal.
The Apexo family includes straight and subtly bent patterns, along with serrated and small-handle options, allowing clinicians to adapt access, grip, and force based on clinical conditions.
Clinical use
Apexo elevators are typically introduced after initial periodontal ligament release when roots remain deeply embedded or resistant to elevation.
Common indications include:
-
Displacement of deeply seated root fragments
-
Difficult anterior or posterior root removal
-
Surgical extractions where controlled leverage is required
-
Cases with limited coronal access
Design overview
Apexo elevators feature narrow working ends and controlled shaft geometries to transmit force efficiently while maintaining tactile feedback. Variations in shaft bend and tip design allow improved access around anatomy and reduced hand strain during use.
All instruments are manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel.
Available patterns and references
-
E301 Apexo Elevator
Straight pattern designed for displacement of deeply seated roots with direct access and controlled force. -
E301SERR Apexo Elevator
Straight pattern with a serrated tip to enhance engagement when additional grip on the root surface is required. -
E301SM Apexo Elevator
Straight pattern identical in use to the E301, featuring a small handle for improved control in fine or delicate applications. -
E302 Apexo Elevator
Features a curved-up tip and a mild V-shaped bend in the shaft, improving access and leverage around deeper root anatomy. -
E303 Apexo Elevator
Similar in purpose to the E302, with a very slight bend in the shaft that is less acute, offering a more subtle angulation for controlled displacement.
Armamentarium placement
Apexo elevators are commonly included in:
-
Oral surgery and minor surgical extraction kits
-
Emergency root tip removal setups
-
Advanced extraction trays focused on difficult or deeply seated roots
They are often used alongside luxating elevators, Cryer elevators, and root tip picks.
