Description
Mesh-based orthodontic traction for expose-and-bond procedures involving unerupted or impacted teeth — most commonly cuspids (canines).
The Cusp-Lok Chain & Mesh system is Xemax's primary traction solution for surgical-orthodontic cases. A stainless-steel mesh bonding pad is bonded directly to the exposed tooth or bone surface; the attached 1-inch 14K gold chain is then engaged by the orthodontist to apply controlled, incremental traction — no bonded bracket required.
When to Choose Cusp-Lok Chain & Mesh
- When a mesh-based bonding surface is preferred over a bracket
- When flexibility in traction direction is required
- When managing limited access or soft-tissue constraints — choose Low Profile
- When a high-reliability, high-volume traction solution is needed
Available Configurations
Mesh Profile
- Regular Mesh — Standard profile for routine access and bonding situations
- Low Profile Mesh — Reduced thickness for limited clearance, flap management, or when minimizing bulk is critical
Both configurations include a 1-inch 14K gold chain.
Key Features
- Stainless-steel mesh bonding pad with pre-attached 14K gold chain
- 1-inch chain length for optimal clinical flexibility and reach
- 14K gold: superior biocompatibility and corrosion resistance vs. lower-karat alternatives
- Flexible, tissue-friendly chain — reduces irritation during healing and activation
- Designed for expose-and-bond orthodontic traction procedures
- Non-sterile, individually packaged
- Made in the USA
- FDA Class I Medical Device
Why 14K Gold?
Cusp-Lok uses 14K gold — not 10K — because higher gold content delivers:
- Superior biocompatibility in the oral environment
- Greater resistance to tarnish and corrosion
- Improved ductility and flexibility under repeated activation
This makes 14K gold better suited for long-term intraoral traction where durability and patient safety are paramount.
Clinical Use
Used during oral surgery and orthodontic treatment of unerupted or impacted teeth, particularly cuspids. After surgical exposure, the mesh is bonded to the tooth or bone surface. The gold chain is then used by the orthodontist to apply controlled traction via ligature wire, elastics, or auxiliary attachments.
Regular and Low Profile mesh options allow clinicians to adapt to varying anatomical and surgical conditions while maintaining consistent traction mechanics.
System Overview
The stainless-steel mesh base provides reliable bonding strength while conforming to the bonding surface. The 14K gold chain offers excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and flexibility during activation. This approach delivers versatile, predictable force application with broad compatibility across common orthodontic mechanics.
