Description
The same reliable C-Sponge airway protection — sized right for pediatric patients and adults where a standard pack is too large.
The C-Sponge Pedo (CSP50) is approximately two-thirds the size of the C-Sponge Regular, purpose-built for pediatric oral surgery and for adult patients with thick tongues or smaller oral cavities where a standard-size throat pack would be excessive or poorly fitting.
Despite its smaller footprint, it delivers the same absorbent, shape-stable polyurethane foam performance as the full-size models — maintaining position when saturated, resisting migration and fragmentation, and supporting reliable airway protection from placement to extubation. Sold in bags of 50.
When to Choose C-Sponge Pedo
- Pediatric patients undergoing oral or maxillofacial surgery under sedation
- Adult patients with thick tongues or smaller oral cavities where standard packs are oversized
- Any case where a reduced-size throat pack improves fit, comfort, and airway coverage
- Practices that treat mixed pediatric and adult populations and need a dedicated smaller-size option
C-Sponge Family: Which to Choose?
- C-Sponge Pedo — ≥2/3 size of Regular. For pediatric patients or adults with smaller oral cavities.
- C-Sponge Regular — Oval shape, standard size. Best for routine adult cases with typical anatomy.
- C-Sponge II — Teardrop shape with integrated retrieval extension. Preferred when faster, more visible removal is a priority.
- C-Sponge III — Oval core with long, thin retrieval tail. Ideal when an unobtrusive tail that stays accessible without blocking the surgical field is needed.
- C-Sponge IV — Peanut shape, slightly larger than Regular. For larger patients or full throat isolation.
Why Surgeons Switch from Gauze
- Gauze migrates. The C-Sponge Pedo’s foam structure resists displacement even in smaller oral cavities under active suctioning.
- Gauze collapses. Polyurethane foam maintains its shape when wet — no bunching, no gaps in airway coverage.
- Gauze fragments. The C-Sponge Pedo comes out as a single, intact unit — critical in pediatric cases where fragment retention is a serious concern.
- Gauze doesn’t size down. Cutting gauze to fit a pediatric airway is imprecise and increases fragmentation risk. The Pedo is purpose-built for the anatomy.
Key Features
- Reduced size (≈ ⅔ of C-Sponge Regular) — purpose-built for pediatric anatomy and smaller oral cavities
- Highly absorbent polyurethane foam — maintains shape and position when saturated
- Secure, non-collapsing design — reduces risk of fluid aspiration
- Durable foam resists tearing or snagging during rotary instrumentation
- Allows active suctioning without dislodgement
- Smooth, atraumatic surface — gentle placement and removal
- Autoclavable prior to use when a sterile field is required (plastic cycle)
- Easy visual confirmation before extubation
- Latex-free
Clinical Applications
- Pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery under sedation or general anesthesia
- Pediatric extractions and trauma-related procedures
- Adult patients with thick tongues or anatomically smaller oral cavities
- Any case where standard throat pack sizing is excessive
